Silicol is a gel consisting of silicic acid, which is a substance composed of the mineral silicon and oxygen in colloidal and hydrated form. Silicol gel is a product for the stomach with no known side effects and can be used regularly or as needed. It is also suitable to take with you when travelling as some dietary changes can make the stomach upset on holiday.

What is silicon?

Silicon is a trace element and the second most abundant element on Earth after oxygen. It is found in nature as silicon dioxide and in hydrated or aqueous form as silicic acid. Many people may know that silicon is a popular mineral for hair, skin and nails and is therefore often found in beauty supplements. Silica in colloidal gel form such as Silicolgel, instead has a protective effect on the gastrointestinal tract making it a very broad product suitable for most people with digestive problems.

Every second Swede suffers from stomach problems

As many as one in two Swedes have stomach problems every week and as many as 10-15% of the population suffer from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), according to the 2019 Magra Report. Common complaints are gas and a bubbly stomach, stomach pain, diarrhoea, acid reflux, etc. Usually these symptoms are due to eating something inappropriate but sometimes we simply don't know what's causing it. Gas is a common concern for many people and can be perceived as embarrassing and inconvenient. Gas is produced in the colon by the bacteria that live there. When we eat food, it breaks down into smaller components in the stomach and small intestine and then travels to the large intestine where the bacteria ferment the remains and gas is formed. Certain types of food can cause more gas than others, such as pulses, cabbage of various kinds, onions and dried fruit. Not chewing food properly can also cause discomfort for many people, so a tip is to really chew your food and eat calmly.

Silicolgel - Function

Stomach and intestinal problems are often caused by harmful and toxic substances such as bacteria, viruses and micro-organisms. When the gastrointestinal tract is disturbed by toxins and pathogens (disease-causing agents), it can result in symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea and gas. Many of these symptoms can be indications of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). When digestion does not work normally, it can lead to general discomfort and physical depression.

The advantage of Silicolgel is its large and active surface of silicic acid that is formed in the stomach and intestines. After ingestion, a protective and soothing film forms over the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines. The adsorbent or binding capacity of colloidal silica binds most irritants and toxins in the stomach and intestines, such as pathogenic bacteria and toxins. This renders them harmless so that they can be removed naturally through the intestines and out of the body.

Silica can also bind gases and reduce acidity, which can reduce gas formation.
