Building materials of the body

Collagen is a protein that builds skin, bones and tendons, among other things. Collagen in turn is made up of different amino acids in varying compositions and it is estimated that there are as many as 16 different types of collagen in our bodies.
The most common are collagen types I and III, which are found mainly in hair, skin, nails, muscles and bones. Collagen type I accounts for about 90% of all collagen in our body. The third type that is usually focused on is collagen type II, which predominates in joints and cartilage.

Decreases with age

The body has the ability to continuously produce its own collagen, but this ability decreases with age. The decline begins as early as the age of 25 and by the time we pass 60+, production has decreased by almost a third. One of the direct indications of decreased collagen production is that the skin becomes thinner, wrinkled and drier.

Dominates in the body

Nearly 75% of the skin is made up of collagen, and collagen is the dominant protein in the body. The connective tissue, one of the body's main building materials, is 80% collagen.

Which fish does the collagen come from?

-Wild-caught cod(Gadus morhua).

Why do we recommend taking the collagen on an empty stomach before breakfast?

-The absorption of collagen seems slightly better on a fasting stomach as proteins (like collagen) need acidic hydrochloric acid in the stomach to be broken down effectively. However, if it doesn't suit you, it's fine with a meal too. As long as your digestion is functioning normally, you'll absorb the collagen just fine anyway.
